Photos E, F and G show three other snowmobile cases that employ removable fan housings. 

Photo G shows a good candidate for a very compact, light and strong engine. This is a Rockwell JLO 434cc (440) engine using a three-bearing shaft assembly. 

Like the Hirth, metal rings hold the right outer bearing and single inner bearing (and shaft) in place while the left outer bearing is allowed to move with heat.
